Dear Sarah,
Thank you for writing and for your thoughtful observations.
We all know that the American Way is to look for "The Answer" (one).
The "cure" for cancer, etc . . . even though we know of so many causes, many speak of looking for A cure. I agree with you in that there seems to be a variety of causes, and hypoxia may certainly be at least a contributing factor in many cases.
There are many websites on which you can read about lack of oxygen and its effect on the brain, and also how HBOT helps the brain to function more effectively. What is the motivation for your research and interest in Autism?

I have looking at many aspects of autism, most of which I consider to be reasons for bringing about a more balanced world in terms of judgement, health, education, parenting, etc. I have read of the possible connection between families living within 1000 feet of a freeway and a higher risk for having a child on the spectrum. I am no expert, but common sense tells me that there may be an oxygen deprivation of some kind, especially if the pregnant mother is in this environment in the third trimester. My thought is this is having an effect on the frontal lobe. I was reading a book that spoke of many symptoms of frontal lobe damage and it amazed me at the identical observations of those for the spectrum. Another personal observation of mothers with children on the spectrum has been the drugs they were administered during labor. Many similar stories of pregnancy shakes, swollen legs, and drugs administered seemed to be a common theme. So, my point would be in the oxygen or lack of during pregnancy and labor/birth having a sort of trigger/or frontal lobe damage that would point to a diagnosis of Autism. I am curious if this may be correlated to the positive results from the chamber treatments...because it repairs the damage done in it's potent delivery of oxygen that helps make up for the lack prior? I am sure the brain can heal itself, is this perhaps what could be happening in some cases. I am aware of many aspects potentially having their part in the scheme of things, this is just one I have some interest in understanding more about. Thank you for you dedication to all children Dr. Saft.
